Camping near Barcelona: 3-day car-free getaway (based in Sitges)

Blog publicado el Feb 26, 2026 por Olivia Jero

A few kilometers south of Barcelona, Sitges is a charming coastal town with a pleasant climate all year round.

Why is Sitges the best base near Barcelona?

Sitges, with its Mediterranean charm and its proximity to Barcelona, is the ideal destination to experience the best #CampStories close to the sea.

You can admire the modernist architecture of this town, whose village soul remains intact less than 40 kilometers (45 minutes) from the center of Barcelona. Its golden beaches and relaxed atmosphere will give you a break from the busy pace of Barcelona without giving up its characteristic vitality, which you will also find in the center of Sitges.

Its beaches, palaces, museums and atmosphere make it the perfect destination for a weekend getaway full of experiences worth remembering. In addition, being so well connected to Barcelona by public transport, it is one of the best bases for exploring Barcelona without a car.

To fully convince you, here's how to get the most out of your 3-day camping trip in Sitges.

Day 1: Barcelona Essentials + Sunset in Sitges

Visit Barcelona's must-haves

Take advantage of the good connection between Sitges and Barcelona to arrive early and start visiting the essentials as soon as possible.

We recommend taking the train and getting off at the Barcelona-Passeig de Gràcia stop, which will leave you in the center of the city. From there you can take the opportunity to visit Passeig de Gràcia, one of the most elegant avenues in Barcelona, where you will also find two of Gaudí's best-known works: Casa Batlló and Casa Milà. Going down you will arrive at the famous Plaça Catalunya and from there you can walk around Las Ramblas, a unique experience in Barcelona.

Before going to the next stop, we suggest the following tourist attractions in the area so you can choose the one that best suits your style:

  • The impressive Barcelona Cathedral — for those looking for more historic and classical #CampStories.
  • El Raval and Palau Güell — for architecture lovers.
  • El Born and the Picasso Museum — for a more local and relaxed plan or for art lovers.

From the center we will go to the Arc de Triomf area. We recommend that you start with the Ciutadella Park, where you can stroll quietly, stop for a picnic or admire its street artists. From there you can go up Passeig de Lluís Companys to discover the impressive Arc de Triomf.

We suggest walking to the next stop, although it can also be easily reached by public transport. The last must-have in Barcelona is the well-known Sagrada Familia, the most emblematic monument in Barcelona. This incredible basilica, designed by Antoni Gaudí, is one of the most visited attractions in the world. And the fact that it is under construction means that there is always something new to discover.

Sunset in Sitges

To end the day in style, we recommend that you return to Sitges to enjoy a sunset with your loved ones that you won't forget. The Mirador de la Playa Sant Sebastià offers spectacular panoramic views with the church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla as the protagonist of this evening.

Day 2: Sitges beaches and old town

The second day we recommend that you spend it discovering charming Sitges. A quiet morning, waking up to the Mediterranean light and hanging out in one of the wonderful Sitges beaches it's the ideal plan. And to each their own, because Sitges offers options for all travelers: urban and family (such as Platja de la Fragata, Platja de les Anquines or Platja de Sant Sebastià), semi-wild coves, with an LGBTI atmosphere and much more. Choose the one that best suits you, or discover them all!

And after eating, what better way to get lost in the cobblestone streets of the historic center? In addition, in the old town you can also discover architectural gems such as the old medieval wall, modernist buildings or old fishermen's houses.

Another monument that you cannot miss in Sitges is the Church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla. And on the way, don't forget to look at the sculpture “The Mermaid” and the Baluard Canyon. After visiting the interior of the church, you can enjoy the views offered by the Mirador de la Plaça del Baluard, from which you will experience another unique sunset.

Day 3: Garraf or Penedès

For the third and final day, we bring you two proposals to reconnect with nature and what really matters.

Garraf Natural Park

The Garraf Natural Park always triumphs among nature lovers. With an area of 12,820 hectares, it is perfect for walking, day trips or cycling with your loved ones. It is made of limestone and surrounded by vineyards, tranquility and spectacular landscapes, ideal for disconnecting without thinking about the clock.

Baix Penedès

El Penedès is not only known for its wines, but also for its numerous excursions and breathtaking landscapes. So we recommend two plans to get the most out of this area:

The Castellet Castle is located on top of a hill and has more than a thousand years of history. In addition, it is considered the most beautiful castle in Penedès. Nowadays you can't visit its interior, but we recommend that you walk up to the entrance to contemplate its imposing façade, discover the old town of Castellet and enjoy views of Pantà de Foix that will leave you breathless. In the afternoon, walking around it is an ideal option for family sports and for those looking for quiet and green #CampStories. Along the walk you will find different landscapes: pine forests, viewpoints and birds.

How to get around by train and bus

Sitges is a very well-connected city, both with Barcelona and with other neighboring towns.

To move within the city you can use any of its three bus lines, which run between the north, east and west.

Sitges also has two companies from interurban bus, which connect Sitges with neighboring towns, such as Sant Pere de Ribes, Vilanova and Barcelona. You can check the schedules and stops on their websites:

  • Autocars Plana Company - www.autorsplana.com (In high season there is a Port Aventura - Sitges coach service)
  • Bus Garraf company - www.bus.cat

And if the bus isn't your thing, to get to Barcelona we recommend the R2Sud, the Train line which connects Sitges with Barcelona in just 40 minutes.
