Before you go: how to get around Albufeira without wasting time
Albufeira has about 30 kilometers of coastline and beaches that are very different from one another, ranging from huge sandy beaches next to the historic center to small coves surrounded by cliffs. Plus, its location makes it easy to take day trips to other parts of the Algarve without having to change your accommodation every night.
So, this itinerary is designed to do the exact opposite of rushing: choose wisely, drive only when necessary, and save time to stop whenever the scenery calls for it.
Car, Uber, or walking: what really makes sense for your trip
On the first day, you can practically forget about the car. The old town, Praia dos Pescadores, and Praia do Peneco are right next to each other, so walking is the easiest way to get to know this part of Albufeira. In fact, to get a taste of adventure before you even pack your bags, the municipality has an official route through the old town that passes by some of its main historic landmarks.
To explore the beaches that stretch to the east and west of the municipality or to take the day trips planned for the third day, having a car gives you much more freedom. Not because you have to spend hours driving, but because it allows you to pick a beach, stay as long as you like, and change your plans on the fly.
Services like Uber also operate in Albufeira, which is a practical alternative for specific trips if you prefer not to worry about a car. You can also get around the city and its surroundings using GIRO, the public transport service.
Our HolaCamp tip: organize your days by area. One coast, one plan, and enough time to enjoy it. Your vacation doesn't need a list of twenty places checked off by the end of the day.
Which area to use as a base to save on travel time
If your goal is to combine Albufeira with a few excursions around the Algarve, a base slightly removed from the busiest center is especially convenient.
HolaCamp Albufeira is close to the historic center and the local beaches. Its location allows you to return after a day full of excursions and trade cliffs, roads, and towns for the pool, shade, and an afternoon with no plans.
Because exploring is great. But having a place to come back to and think, "we've done enough for today," is even better.
Day 1: Old town, urban beach, and a sunset stroll
A morning among white streets, viewpoints, and local vibes
Experience Albufeira at your own pace and discover the part that existed before the city became one of the Algarve's major tourist destinations.
Its historic center will win you over with its narrow streets, white houses, and a layout that invites you to wander rather than follow a strict route. We do recommend a few spots you shouldn't miss: Praça da República, the old Praça de Armas, where the Municipal Archaeological Museum is located, and nearby, the Torre do Relógio, one of the symbols of Albufeira. From here, you can continue toward the Igreja Matriz, the Igreja de Sant'Ana, and the Capela da Misericórdia.
Afterward, head down toward Largo Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco, one of the central spaces in the lower part of town, and keep walking until the streets meet the Atlantic.
You don't need an agenda here. Walking, looking around, and going with the flow is a plan in itself.
An easy beach afternoon without the parking hassle
Spend the afternoon by the sea.
Praia dos Pescadores is located right in front of the historic center and has direct access from the town. It is an urban beach, surrounded by services and restaurants, perfect for combining a few hours by the sea with a stroll through Albufeira.
Next to it, Praia do Peneco offers an alternative that both kids and adults will love: you can reach it from the old town through a tunnel carved into the cliff, or by using the elevator located in the Rossio area.
The best part is that you don't have to choose a "must-see" spot. Head down to the sand, walk along the shore, and stay wherever you feel like laying out your towel.
And to turn Albufeira's scenery into a postcard: don't miss the sunset from the Miradouro do Pau da Bandeira. White houses, golden sand, and the Atlantic. Often, the simplest things become the most extraordinary.

Day 2: cliffs, coves, and coastal plans
If you prefer hidden coves over large beaches, you'll love the plan for the second day, because it's time to discover another side of Albufeira.
To the west of the center, you'll find small beaches tucked between rocks. It’s the Algarve landscape you probably pictured before you even arrived: golden sand, rock walls, and the Atlantic in the background.
The ultimate plan for breathtaking scenery
A great starting point is Praia de São Rafael. Its sandy shore is surrounded by heavily eroded limestone cliffs, where water and time have carved out arches, caves, and isolated rock formations.
Nearby, you have other small beaches like Arrifes, with large rock formations emerging from the water that add to its charm; Coelha, located in a cove protected by rock walls; or Castelo, nestled between cliffs that reach up to 30 meters in some spots.
Our advice? Don't try to visit them all; you can find our ranking in the article "Best beaches in Albufeira: how to choose based on vibe, access, and type of trip".
Visit São Rafael and pick a second beach based on your mood that day. Spend the morning between the water and the rocks, eat without watching the clock, and leave a cove or two for next time.
And one important rule: the cliffs are part of the area's charm, but they also require caution. It is very important to respect the signage and keep a safe distance from the cliff edges. We want your #CampStories to be full of good memories, not scares.
A quieter alternative if you're traveling with children or are short on time
If you prefer a wider beach and a simple plan, Praia da Galé is a great alternative. Its east and west sections offer expansive sandy areas and easy access.
Another option is Santa Eulália, which features a wide beach, amenities, and access via walkways and stairs.
Here, the plan can be even easier: beach in the morning, a relaxed lunch, and back to the campsite when you're ready for some shade and the pool.
Because we know that vacations with kids move at their own pace.
Day 3: An excursion from Albufeira to match your travel style
The last day is all about choices.
From Albufeira, you can head in almost any direction. But in three days, it makes much more sense to pick one excursion that fits the kind of #CampStories you want to create, and really enjoy it.
Nature and coast option
If you prefer walking to driving, the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail is for you.
The trail is located in Lagoa and connects Praia de Vale Centeanes to Praia da Marinha, stretching about 6 km. It runs along the top of the cliffs, where you can admire the unique shapes carved into the limestone and their contrast with the sea.
The route passes near the Benagil cave, but it's important to make a distinction: hiking this trail does not mean entering the famous cave. Boat tours to the caves are a separate activity.
If you hike there and back, calculate double the distance and adjust the route based on your fitness level, the temperature, and the daylight hours. On the cliffs, it is recommended to keep a safe distance from the edges and avoid windy or rainy conditions that could make the path difficult.
Charming town and slower pace option
If you prefer culture, quiet streets, and an excursion you can easily adapt, Faro is a great alternative.
Step back in time by entering the old town through the Arco da Vila and wandering through the area known as Vila-Adentro, protected by its walls. You can also find the Faro Cathedral in the Largo da Sé.
You don't need much more of an itinerary: a stroll, some history, a terrace when the mood strikes, and time to linger over your meal.
Where to eat without falling for the biggest tourist traps
Instead of recommending a specific restaurant, we suggest something much better: the best way to get to know local products is to start at the markets.
In Albufeira itself, there is the Mercado Municipal dos Caliços, with stalls selling fish, fruit, and vegetables. Currently, it also hosts a farmers' and producers' market in its central courtyard on Thursdays and Saturdays.
If your getaway falls on a Saturday and you feel like a short excursion, head over to Loulé. Its Saturday outdoor market brings together local producers from the municipality and nearby towns around the Municipal Market.
Buying something you like, heading back to the campsite, and putting together an impromptu meal is one of the best ways to experience the Algarve. And often, it tastes better than any restaurant.
Where to stay to keep the Algarve and Albufeira within reach
To have everything just a stone's throw away while still being able to rest surrounded by nature and experience your getaway at your own pace, the best option is a campsite on the outskirts of Albufeira.

Book your base at HolaCamp Albufeira

In the morning, hit the road for adventure. Because three days in Albufeira aren't enough to see everything, but they are enough to create #CampStories that you'll remember forever.
