How to get around the Aran Valley stress-free? Tips before you head out
Real distances and travel times between villages: what you need to know
Beyond its numerous waterfalls, forests, ski slopes, and breathtaking landscapes, the Aran Valley is made up of 33 charming stone villages with slate roofs that invite you to stay a little longer.
Our 6 favorite villages that we think you can't miss are:
- Bossòst
- Vilac
- Arties
- Salardù
- Unha
- Bagergue (considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain)
Between Bossòst and Bagergue, the villages furthest apart, there are only about 28 km. The only thing to keep in mind is that, since they are connected by mountain roads where speed is restricted and you need to be careful, it will take you about 40 minutes to get from one end of the valley to the other.
Our HolaCamp tip: Group the villages together; Bagergue, Unha, Salardù, and Arties are very close to each other, so it's perfect for a day trip to that part of the valley to visit them all or combine them with a hike. As for visiting the villages closest to your accommodation, it's best to fit them into your downtime or visit them on your way back from or on your way to a trail.
Choosing your strategic base: the best area to stay
Although staying in a small village has its charm, for a true getaway, we recommend choosing a campsite surrounded by nature as your base. If it's close to a couple of trails and a village for shopping, even better. Especially if you are traveling with children, it is very important to choose a campsite that has a pool, sports facilities, and leisure areas.
HolaCamp Arán Aventura has the ideal location to enjoy a getaway full of #CampStories that you won't want to stop telling.
Day 1: A route through the most charming villages and a gentle walk
Must-see stops: stone villages and slate roofs
The best way to get started in the Aran Valley is to explore some of its most charming villages, with their characteristic stone houses and slate roofs.
Although we have provided a list of our favorite villages above, if you only have one morning, these are the places you absolutely must visit:
- Bagergue: on the list of the most beautiful villages in Spain.
- Bossòst: split by the Garonne River, it looks like something out of a fairy tale.
- Les: stone houses, a castle, thermal baths, and breathtaking mountain views—what more could you ask for?
A 60-minute trail to connect with the Pyrenees
If you want to experience the best of the Aran Valley, Sauth deth Pish is your ideal route—a very easy and photogenic trail. Throughout the hike, you will reach an impressive viewpoint from which you can enjoy stunning views of one of the most well-known waterfalls in the Aran Valley. The waterfall consists of two drops of 5 and 15 meters, and although you can stay at the viewpoint, the more adventurous can also climb up to the top of the waterfall.

Day 2: Nature with a 'wow' factor (without endless hikes)
The easiest plan: accessible nature if you are traveling with children
If you are traveling with your little ones, there is one route that is a must-see: the Camin d’era Bruisha. It is a short, simple trail full of character where children can discover a thousand details to keep them entertained, such as swings, wooden bridges, little surprises, and the witch's house (where, if you are lucky, you might see the witch herself brewing her magic potions).
The route is a local initiative designed to spark the curiosity and imagination of both children and adults, allowing them to immerse themselves in a world of fantasy.
This makes it an ideal family excursion that will create #CampStories magical memories.

Intermediate level: a route with spectacular views to stretch your legs
Very close to HolaCamp Arán Aventura, you will find one of the most beautiful and hidden gems of the Aran Valley: the Val de Toran.
A valley where tranquility reigns, with silent forests, small villages, and, like the rest of the Aran Valley, a distinct personality in every season. It is the perfect route to enjoy a quiet and different morning with your loved ones.

A morning without an alarm clock: calm and the best landscapes in the valley
At HolaCamp, we know that the best #CampStories aren't always the most elaborate ones, but rather those that arise from simple, spontaneous plans. That’s why we suggest spending one of those mornings waking up without an alarm and enjoying coffee without any rush. And once you’re up, here is a list of the best lookouts in the Aran Valley so you can head to the one closest to your accommodation (or wherever you plan to eat):
- Beret Lookout: One of the most spectacular in the Aran Valley. Marvel at views of the Maladeta massif and the Aigüestortes National Park.
- Roca de Serra: A spectacular natural lookout accessible by car, where you can see the Artiga de Lin, the Huelhs Deth Jueu, and the Aneto-Maladeta massif.
- Arres: Enjoy sweeping views of the entire valley and the imposing Aneto peak on the horizon. You can get there by car, but if you’re up for an excursion, you can also reach it by bike.
And since there are few better ways to get to know a region than through its food, make sure you don’t leave the Aran Valley without trying these dishes:
- Aranese stew (Olla aranesa)
- Game dishes like venison civet
- Beef stew
- Mushroom cannelloni
Since the villages are quite far apart, your choice of "where to eat" will likely be determined by your route. While you’ll find a good restaurant in any village to try the most traditional dishes, we have a couple of recommendations that are worth considering if they fit into your plans:
- Dining on the slopes: The most convenient option for ski lovers, you'll find restaurants and bars for every taste right on the slopes.
- Gourmet d’Occitania
- Eth Restilhè
