Christmas is one of the most beloved holidays, and at HolaCamp we are no exception. We love those days when everything is magical, the streets are filled with lights, people, color and love.
And what we are sure of is that Barcelona is one of the best cities to experience Christmas. To convince you, we leave you with all the activities, events and traditions you should know to spend the best Christmas in Barcelona.
What to do at Christmas in Barcelona
Christmas markets
Music, chocolate with churros, Christmas decorations, figures for the manger, fir trees and the smell of Christmas. Indeed, the mandatory stop in any city at Christmas are the Christmas markets, and although the original ones are those in Germany, the ones here have nothing to envy them.
- Santa Llúcia: The oldest Christmas market in Barcelona, is right in the center and is decorated with the imposing cathedral of Barcelona.
- Sagrada Familia: With the Sagrada Familia as a backdrop, this market invites you to stroll quietly while sipping chocolate with churros.
- Port Vell: A Christmas fair in style, it's the newest one, and although it strays a bit away from traditional markets due to its lack of decorative stops, its lighting decorations and attractions make up for it.
See the Christmas lights
At Christmas the Passeig de Gràcia becomes one of the main protagonists, along the Passeig you can discover other streets and squares that are also known for their Christmas decorations such as Portal de l'Angel, Plaça Catalunya, Carrer Pelai, Via Laietana and Carrer Aragó.
Although we have to warn you: if it is already full of people during the year, at Christmas... more, so we recommend that you come with patience and without too much haste.
If you prefer, there are also areas further away from the center that shine with their own light, inviting you to walk aimlessly, such as Avinguda Diagonal and Arc de Triomf.
Light shows at Casa Batlló and Llums de Sant Pau
In addition to the usual Christmas lights, Barcelona has been going further for a few years and preparing mappings and lighting installations in different parts of the city. The highlights are the mapping of Casa Batlló, which has passes every afternoon lasting about 3 minutes from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and the Llums de Sant Pau, which consist of a free outdoor mapping and a different indoor lighting installation each year.

Ice rinks
Whether you know how to skate or not, ice rinks are one of the best Christmas plans, and Barcelona couldn't miss it. Every year, temporary ice rinks are set up in Port Vell, La Maquinista, Illa Diagonal and in the Camp Nou grounds.
Christmas events
Collecting cards from the royal pages
The little ones can live the magical experience of delivering their cards to royal pages in different parts of the city. But the best known in Barcelona is the collection of letters from Paje Estel, who arrives on January 4th at Plaza Santa Madrona, in Poble Sec, where activities will be held to help children soak up the Christmas atmosphere.
Cabalgata de Reyes
If you haven't arrived on time to deliver your letter, don't worry! The night of January 5 is called “the most magical night of the year” and Barcelona's parade of kings does justice to the title. From the Ciutadella Park to Plaça Espanya, an endless number of floats that change every year parade, the three kings, pages, dancers and many more surprises that will make the keep the magic alive, and not only for the little ones in the house.
And if you don't like crowds, don't worry, the television brings Christmas to your house, because from early in the afternoon, when the Three Wise Men arrive at the port, the parade is broadcast on TV3 so you don't miss anything.
